Our FCHCA Board of Directors, Administrative Staff and FCHCA Employees have accomplished many improvements to the facility. Over the last ten years we have added a staffed information center creating four paid part-time positions. We built an outdoor sheltered employee break area, made the lower lobby into a food court and added security. Over 80 regular parking spots where added and we relocated handicapped parking in front of the building so that our physically challenged visitors can utilize the ramp access easier. For everyone’s safety, an ice melting system was replaced to accommodate our front ramp, over 350 feet of sidewalk, the rear walkway and the rear delivery area. Several hundred feet of sidewalk was added for staff and visitor safety.
We would like to recognize our board of directors for their support in restoring the facility and approving improvements that are cost effective and energy efficient. Our current board members are Fayette County Residents appointed by our Fayette County Commissioners. They volunteer their time to make the health center a safe and comfortable place to visit and work.
Besides all the improvements mentioned, the roof has been replaced, outdoor storage units were added, 8 waterless urinals were installed saving approximately 400,000 gallons of water annually. A bicycle rack was added for our two wheel visitors and we have up graded the fire alarm and air conditioning systems.
The on going conversion of incandescent to florescent and the changing of all fluorescents to energy efficient ballasts and bulbs should eventually reduce energy consumption of these appliances by 25 percent. Our surveillance system was recently up graded and we have added a sheltered bus stop in the front of the facility for our visitors using public transportation. We also up graded our heating system replacing six boilers with three more efficient models. We added a designated smoking area to accommodate our visitors that smoke.
In 2002 we received Employer Of The Year Award from Goodwill. We have received the Outstanding Service Award as a Champion of Older Workers and a Certificate of Recognition for our work with Area Agency On Aging Senior Employment Services. We participated with the Fayette County Older Workers Job Fair and we continue to be a training facility for Goodwill and their workforce development programs.
Our board is very supportive of many other community agencies and community development programs and encourages our administrative staff to actively participate when possible with community outreach activities.
As a Chamber of Commerce Member we always check with the Chamber of Commerce Members that provide products and services, which include our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Many times we have found construction materials we may need when doing internal renovations. If they have these items in stock, it could be fifty percent less if purchased from a regular lumber or home improvement store.
